One of the original intents of the original NRG quick release was to help serve as an anti-theft deterrent. As car thieves have gotten smarter and more savvy over the years, some have taken the added measure of carrying a quick released steering wheel with them when stealing your vehicle. In response, NRG came up with a savvy idea of their own: a lock for the bottom portion of the quick release.
Once you remove your quick locked steering wheel, you simply put the lock over it and then unlock it with the included key when you come back. The added hassle for thieves of having to bypass TWO locks (assuming you lock your car doorsí¡which you really should) AND needing a quick release steering wheel in hand will make your car much less appealing for a quick hit.
